Frequently Asked Questions
Considering joining us? Here are answers to common questions to help you feel comfortable and prepared.
The group & belonging
Do I need to bring a friend?
You’re welcome to come on your own or with a friend. Probably Abroad is for both solo travelers and friends who want to explore together. Either way, you’ll be part of a small, welcoming group of women sharing the adventure.
Who are these trips for?
Probably Abroad welcomes curious, open-minded women who want to experience somewhere different. Women of different ages can find connection through a shared love of travel.
You don’t need extensive travel experience or athletic training. Each traveler should be able to meet the trip’s physical requirements independently. Curiosity, respect for local cultures and consideration for fellow travelers help make the experience enjoyable for everyone.
Every trip will clearly spell out its physical expectations before you apply so you can decide whether it sounds like your kind of fun.
How big are the groups?
Small on purpose. Most trips will have about 8 to 10 women.
This gives us time to get to know one another and share a more personal travel experience.
How do you choose the women who come on a trip?
We keep our groups small so everyone has a chance to feel welcome and connected.
An application before booking helps us understand what you’re hoping for, confirm that the itinerary suits your needs and share what to expect from the group experience.
We ask everyone to bring kindness, flexibility, curiosity and respect for one another.
Who is welcome?
All women are welcome regardless of religion, race, nationality or sexual orientation.
Our travelers bring different beliefs, backgrounds and life experiences, and we welcome those perspectives. Curiosity, kindness and mutual respect help everyone feel included.
You’re welcome here, and we ask everyone to help create a kind, respectful group.
The experience
Do I have to participate in everything?
You’re welcome to take a little time for yourself or sit out an activity when the itinerary allows.
We’ll tell you what’s planned, what an activity involves and anything you need to know before deciding. If you want to sit something out, that’s generally fine. Occasionally logistics or safety may limit the options, and we’ll make that clear ahead of time.
How physically demanding are the trips?
The activity level varies by destination. Our trips include active experiences, and you don’t need athletic training to enjoy them as long as you can comfortably meet the itinerary’s physical requirements.
Each trip page will tell you exactly what to expect before you apply, including things like walking, stairs, heat, uneven terrain or getting in and out of boats or vehicles.
What if something makes me nervous?
It’s completely understandable to feel nervous about something new.
We’ll share clear information and draw on local expertise to help you decide what feels right for you. You can always tell us how you’re feeling, ask questions or decline an activity when the itinerary allows.
You’ll have encouragement and support along the way.
Will I have any time to myself?
Yes.
There will be opportunities to rest, recharge and enjoy some time on your own. We value both shared experiences and personal space.
How do you choose local businesses and guides?
We care about where our travel dollars go.
Whenever practical, we look for female guides and drivers, women-owned businesses, artisans, fair-trade shops and organizations creating meaningful opportunities for women in their own communities.
We also choose partners based on safety, professionalism, local expertise and the experience they provide.
What happens if plans change while we’re traveling?
Plans occasionally need to change, and we’ll keep you informed along the way.
Weather, transportation delays or local conditions can affect an itinerary. We’ll use the best available information and local expertise to adjust plans thoughtfully and explain any changes.
Sometimes the unexpected part becomes the story you tell for years.
Rooms, meals & comfort
Will I have a roommate?
You’ll have your own room and won’t be paired with someone you don’t know. If you’re traveling with a friend and would like to share, just let us know when you book.
What kind of accommodations should I expect?
We choose accommodations with comfort and character in mind.
We’ll look for clean, comfortable places in good locations, with a welcoming atmosphere and somewhere to rest well after a full day.
Accommodations may vary by destination and aren’t always five-star hotels. Each trip page will describe what you can expect.
What if I have dietary restrictions?
Please share your dietary needs before the trip. We’ll work with our local partners on reasonable accommodations and explain any destination-specific limitations so you can plan with confidence.
Trying local food is part of the experience, and we want you to feel comfortable with your choices.
